    Grandweld Shipyards completed the delivery of four GrandMax Crewboats for Saudi-based offshore oil & gas service provider, High Seas Marine Industrial Services Co. (HSM). This feat was accomplished in a span of 14 months, despite the numerous challenges of the pandemic. Post the official delivery ceremony that took place at Grandweld’s headquarters in Dubai Maritime City, Eng. Jamal Abki, General Manager of Grandweld Shipyards, and Eng. Ibrahim Al Saeed, Managing Director of High Seas Marine Industrial Services Co., spoke to Marasi News about their collaboration for this project.

All six vessels are the Damen Stan Tug 1606 type, and were contracted directly from Sharjah-based Albwardy Damen, as part of ADNOC Group’s commitment to boost In-Country Value across its operations.

    Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has secured an order from DP World to supply 81 Kalmar Ottawa T2 terminal tractors for its South Container Terminal (SCT) in Jeddah Islamic Port, Saudi Arabia. The order was booked in Cargotec’s 2021 Q2 quarter order intake with delivery scheduled for Q2 of 2022.



Mutual recognition of maritime training and certification of competency of seafarers between UAE and Georgia

The UAE represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maritime Transport Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development in Georgia. According to the MoU, the UAE and Georgia will recognise maritime education and training as well as certificates of competency of seafarers issued by the competent authorities in both countries. This is in accordance to the regulations of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW). The move supports the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of the maritime sector and promote bilateral relations with different countries in the maritime sector.


JAFZA and Dubai Courts launch the 1st virtual court in the Middle East to handle labour litigations

As part of its efforts to establish excellence in its integrated business environment and digital ecosystem, Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) and Dubai Courts, have launched the Virtual Court to handle labour litigations involving companies operating from the free zone and its employees. The parties involved in labour litigations can approach the Virtual Court that is equipped with a live broadcast system linked to Dubai Courts and the highest levels of electronic security. Judges can conduct hearings and adjudicate and access all the details using the electronic link with Jafza’s digital labour contracts system and other related information to issue their verdicts.

Maersk calls Jafza home for its first Warehousing & Distribution facility in the UAE

Maersk Kanoo UAE, an integrator of container logistics, today signed an agreement with DP World’s leading trade and logistics hub, Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) to set up its first Warehousing & Distribution (W&D) facility in the UAE. The agreement was signed by Christopher Cook, Managing Director, Maersk UAE and Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO & Managing Director, DP World – UAE Region & Jafza, today at Maersk West & Central Asia regional headquarter in Dubai. The 10,000 sq. mt. facility will be located within Jafza in Dubai.
